The Lord demands the Israelites in Isaiah 1:13 to “stop bringing meaningless offerings!” I love this reminder. The Lord does not want our empty praises or our climbing the ladder of legalism. Trillia Newbell put it this way…“When we work hard for God in order to earn his favor, we are not operating with faith. Instead, we are saying that we must add to the finished work of Jesus on the cross. His work wasn’t enough, and therefore we must work to make him happy — we must take it into our own hands to be accepted by God.” He wants genuine worship that comes from the deepest longing of our hearts. We do not need to bring offerings to Him in return for His love, for He has given one in place for us. This is such a great reminder of the gospel! Our “offerings,” attempts at pleasing God, are worthless in light of our salvation through Christ. God calls us out of death because He wants us…all of us. He wants you on your good days and on your bad. He wants you in the calm and in the storm. He wants you when you are present and in the moments you stray away. This love is not demanding…it is beyond all understanding! So give Him your full heart, not your empty praises.
“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” - Ephesians 3:19
